1937: Came home and started to do last night’s dishes.
Milt. had to work late & so did Lil so Freddie and I went (in pouring rain) to meet Lil at Milwaukee Ave. & Cicero and then on to Edna & Harold’s. Dot & Gene were there also and the boy had a lot of fun playing with Harold Jr’s Xmas toys.
Had coffee & refreshments and went home in a cab.
1939: Got up rather late and after breakfast Milt. decided to take down the Xmas tree and said I could go to the Square and get a new dress if I wanted to. I went to Billy Stone first and got a girdle. What a day for bargains. I got a $10.00 girdle for $8.00. Then got a $6.95 dress for $4.95. Then got a hat and veil for $1.74. Some luck!
Got home at 12:15 and found that Milt. had cleaned up almost the entire house. I made lunch & then he did the shopping.
After supper, Ruth came over to take care of Lloyd.
I took a bath & wasn’t nearly dressed when Vic, Lewis, Ruth & Ray came to pick us up. They played with Lloyd who was enjoying his first day up and around.
Then we all went to Al & Win’s. where we spent a lovely evening playing bridge. Milt. & Ruth won prizes.
We got home at a reasonable hour & felt swell….
1940: Mrs. S___ and Ruth went out today and Milt. & I spent the afternoon together for a little while. He went out for a while but got back early.
Bob and Anne came over for a waffle supper and afterwards we played bridge until 11:30.
Milt. took down the tree.
2013: More with the 10,000 pound beast. It’s like the cats – there are moments where I believe I am in charge, but really, I am fooling myself. I am merely one multi-faceted, multi-plugged-in cog among all its gears, wheels, cams and such, that must do my job to keep it running. Good workout too.
